What is the Utah Fits All Scholarship? Everything you need to know

Utah families have access to one of the most flexible school choice programs in the country. The Utah Fits All Scholarship gives eligible K-12 students up to $8,000 per year to spend on education outside the traditional public school system — including live online classes through Outschool. If your family's 2026-27 scholarship was just awarded, funds release on July 15, 2026.

What is the Utah Fits All Scholarship?

The Utah Fits All Scholarship is a universal school choice program signed into law in 2023 and launched in 2024. It provides annual scholarship funds to eligible K-12 students in Utah, which families can spend on a wide range of approved education expenses — private school tuition, tutoring, curriculum, educational software, enrichment programs, and more.

As of May 2025, Odyssey is the official program administrator. All applications, fund management, and approved vendor purchases are handled through the Odyssey portal at withodyssey.com. If you have questions about your account, you can reach the Odyssey Utah team at help.ut@withodyssey.com or (385) 462-1338.

Who qualifies?

All K-12 students who are Utah residents are eligible, regardless of income or zip code. To receive the scholarship, students must not be enrolled in a public school district (LEA) when funds are awarded. Students cannot receive both the Utah Fits All Scholarship and the Carson Smith Opportunity Scholarship in the same year.

How much is the scholarship?

Scholarship amounts depend on your child's age and enrollment status:

  • Home-based students ages 5-11: $4,000 per year
  • Home-based students ages 12-18: $6,000 per year
  • Private school students: $8,000 per year

Age is determined as of September 1 of the school year. Funds are deposited into your Odyssey scholarship account and can be spent throughout the year on approved expenses.

When do funds release for 2026-27?

The 2026-27 application window has closed. If your family applied and received an award notification, here's where things stand now:

  • June 16, 2026: Award notifications sent
  • June 30, 2026: Scholarship acceptance deadline
  • July 15, 2026: Scholarships funded — funds land in your Odyssey account

If you accepted your award before June 30, your funds will be available in your Odyssey account starting July 15. For the 2027-28 school year, new applications typically open in March. You can join the interest list now at utaheducationfitsall.org.

How do I use my Utah Fits All funds?

Once your scholarship is approved, funds are loaded into your Odyssey account. From there, you can browse approved vendors and complete purchases through the portal. Outschool is an approved vendor in the Odyssey marketplace, which means Utah families can use their scholarship funds to pay for Outschool classes directly — no out-of-pocket spending required.

To get started, log in to your Odyssey account at support.withodyssey.com, search for Outschool, and select the classes you want to enroll in.

What can I spend my Utah Fits All funds on?

The scholarship covers a broad range of education-related expenses, including:

  • Tuition and fees at a qualifying private or home education provider
  • Tutoring services
  • Curriculum, textbooks, and instructional materials
  • Educational software and applications
  • After-school and summer education programs
  • Supplies, equipment, and technology primarily for educational use
  • Fees for standardized tests, AP exams, college admissions exams, and prep courses
  • Industry certification exams
  • Educational services for students with disabilities (occupational, behavioral, physical, speech-language, and audiology therapies)
  • Extracurricular activities, field trips, and educational experiences
  • Transportation to qualifying providers (up to $750 per year)

Outschool live classes qualify as tutoring services and instructional programs — which means your child's coding class, writing workshop, or one-on-one math tutoring can all be covered.

How does Outschool fit in?

Outschool offers over 140,000 live, small-group online classes for kids ages 3-18, covering core academics, enrichment, and everything in between. Utah families with Fits All funds can use their Odyssey balance to book classes directly, with no upfront payment required.

Whether you're filling a curriculum gap, adding enrichment in a subject your kid loves, or looking for a specialist teacher for a neurodiverse learner, the class catalog covers it.
